Basic equipment strain gauge accessories

You need these accessories for the application of strain gauge.

Adhesive

Cyanaccrylate adhesive, especially for stress analysis and construction of prototypes, as well as for the installation of strain gauges "on-site".

Consisting of Cyanoacrylate and catalyst.

Teflon tape

Release film is required for bonding between "thumb" and "strain gauge"

Cleaning cloth

Cleaning cloth, impregnated with 70% alcohol and 30% DI water. the non-woven fabric (cellulose polyester) is "lint-free" and suitable for the cleanroom class (recommended): 5-9, ISO GMP C-D. 50 towels in a resealable bag.

Rosin Solvent

Mixture of isopropyl alcohol and toluene. For removal of flux residue, also for local cleaning of adhesive surfaces, for removal of silicone residues. Attention: Harmful, wear gloves.

Cotton swab

4x25 cotton swabs, lint-free. For local cleaning of adhesive surfaces or strain gauges, or for cleaning of strain gauge solder joints, for removal of flux residue with the help of "Rosin Solvent"

Kapton Tape

Temperature-resistant adhesive tape for fixing and adjusting the strain gauges during gluing process.

Eraser

To clean the strain gage pads before soldering or to balance RAE and RBAE resistors. The eraser pin is used to roughen the constantan or nickel iron surfaces of the strain gauge for soldering and to remove oxide layers.

Solder

(Leaded) solder, suitable for use in development and testing. Not for use in production. Contains sufficient flux, no additional flux is needed.

Soldering terminals

The soldering pads are glued at a distance of 1 to 5 mm from the strain gauge. They serve as solder pads for the internal wiring of the bridge circuit and for the soldering of the connection cable.

The version CEG (epoxy) is with epoxy resin carrier (robust) and is particularly suitable for flat surfaces. The CPF version is flexible with polyimide backing and is particularly suitable for curved surfaces.

The variants "d" are specially designed for 3-wire connection.

The size 50 is suitable for grid sizes 1.5mm to 3mm.

CU-magnet wire

Copper enamelled wire in 4 different colors for the internal wiring of strain gauges.

Inexpensive alternative to 134-AWN. The insulation resistance is ensured by avoiding sharp edges, by masking sharp edges with PI tape, and in particular by the priming and subsequent fixation of CU enameled wires with M-Coat A.

Cover varnish transparent

Covering lacquer is used to insulate CU enameled wire against the metallic deformation body, to cover the strain gauge and to fix the wiring with CU enameled wire.

Silicone transparent

The transparent silicone TSE-397 offers easy mechanical protection and good protection against moisture. It is neutral, low odor and may be used in conjunction with electronic components and strain gauges.

Cover foil ABM-75

The cover film ABM-75 offers good mechanical protection and very good protection against humidity, especially in outdoor applications and long-term tests. It can be combined with cover paint, but not with silicone. When applying several cover layers, it should be noted that each additional layer completely covers the previous one with oversize. The complete curing of e.g. M-coat A for 24 hours or three hours at 60 degrees in the temperature cabinet must be guaranteed.
